HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Brazil’s thermoplastic resin demand in January-April rose by 14.1% to 1.6m tonnes from a year earlier amid strong demand in the automobile, construction and packaging sectors, industry association Abiquim said on Monday.

Brazil’s resin production in January-April was 1.5m tonnes, a 4.7% drop on year, the association said, adding that imports rose by 61% to 350,500 tonnes in the same period.

Brazil in January-April exported 259,600 tonnes of thermoplastic resins, a 35.2% drop from one year earlier, Abiquim said.

The association said figures refer to polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polystyrene (PS), polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA).

Abiquim said data are preliminary because polyethylene terephthalate (PET) figures were not included.
