SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--China National Offshore Oil Corp (CNOOC) shut down its aromatics plant at Huizhou in southern Guangdong province on Tuesday for 10 days due to a feedstock shortage, a company source said.
"We received a notice from CNOOC-Shell that it would stop providing feedstock for our aromatics due to a unit turnaround in that company," the source said.
The source could not provide any further details of the plant shutdown while CNOOC-Shell officials were unavailable for comment.
The joint venture, which is located at the same site, operates an 800,000 tonne/year ethylene cracker and produces 2.3m tonnes/year of petrochemical products from its Huizhou operations.
CNOOC's aromatics plant produces 120,000 tonnes/year of toluene and 100,000 tonnes/year of xylenes.
