SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--Sichuan Chemical Works has restarted two melamine lines, each with around 13,000 tonne/year capacity in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province in southwest China, a company source said on Wednesday.
The lines were shut following the massive earthquake that hit the region on 12 May.
The other three lines, each with a similar production capacity, are still shut down for scheduled maintenance.
Measuring 8.0 on the Richter scale, the quake on 12 May caused more than 40,000 deaths and another 32,000 were missing, according to official figures late on Tuesday. It caused CNY67bn worth of damage to 14,207 industrial enterprises.
Meanwhile, a 30,000 tonne/year melamine plant in Hejiang county was operating normally, the source said.
Domestic melamine prices have increased amid tight supply and rising urea prices, traders said.
Melamine prices increased by yuan (CNY)200-300/tonne($28.69-43.04/tonne) to CNY10,900-11,700/tonne on ex-works basis.
