SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--Shanghai BASF Polyurethane Co Ltd (SBPC) plans to shut down its 160,000 tonne/year toluene di-isocyanate (TDI) plant in early June for a scheduled maintenance, a company source said on Monday.
"The fixed date for turnaround is still unknown," the source said adding that it could last two to three weeks.
Traders and end-users were prepared for this turnaround as the company had informed them several months in advance, the source said.
The company would take necessary measures to meet the demands of its customers, as there could be a shortage of TDI due to regulations imposed on the transportation of certain chemicals, the source added. These regulations could also see a rise in TDI prices, traders said.TDI is a feedstock for polyurethane (PU), which is used in the automobile, construction, and footwear industries.
The plant is located in Shanghai chemical industry park at Caojing in Shanghai.
