SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--South Korea-based Lotte Daesan is still running its cracker at below maximum operation rate with the current rate at about 90%, a source from the company said on Wednesday.

"The cracker is currently running at about 90% operation rate after experiencing some trouble starting up after an expansion to 1m tonne/year," the source added in Korean on the sidelines of the Asia Petrochemical Industry Conference (APIC).

"All 15 furnaces have been fired up but they will only be running [at] full operation rate by the end of the month," the source said, declining to comment further.

The 1m tonne/year cracker in Daesan was successfully started up on 14 May, and was scheduled to hit 100% operation rate by 26 May.

All other downstream plants, including a 150,000 tonne/year butadiene (BD) plant and a 320,000 tonne/year benzene plant were operating normally, he added.

The APIC conference began on Tuesday and runs through Wednesday.
