SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--China-based Shandong Yuhuang Jinyu Chemical Co, Ltd will start up a new 200,000 tonne/year dimethyl ether (DME) plant in mid-October, a company source said on Thursday.

"The plant began to be built recently and will come on stream in mid-October if everything goes successfully," the source said in Mandarin, adding that there was a rise in domestic demand for DME.

The company operates two DME plants with a total capacity of 250,000 tonnes/year currently.

DME, a downstream product of methanol, can be used as a substitute for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

The company is a subsidiary of Shandong Yuhuang Chemical Co Ltd, both of which are located at Heze city in the eastern province of Shandong.
