LONDON (ICIS news)--Sud-Chemie has started catalyst production at its new plant in Qatar, a first for the country, the German company said on Monday.

“The plant will supply catalysts to the Gulf states with a focus on the fast-growing market of Qatar,” the company added.

“The catalysts will be used to convert natural gas into diesel based on so-called gas-to-liquid (GTL) processes, as well as other processes for converting natural gas into higher grade chemicals,” it said.

As a result of forward orders the catalyst production facilities would be working to capacity for the next two years and discussions were already underway to extend the newly commissioned plant, Sud-Chemie said.

“We are determined to continue expanding other innovative products and in this way, will contribute to the region’s dynamic growth,” Sud-Chemie managing board member Dr Hans-Joachim Muller said.
