STOCKHOLM (ICIS news)--Perstorp will double the production capacity of its caprolactone plant in Warrington, UK, by 2010, the Sweden-based company said on Tuesday.

The market for caprolactone and its derivatives was growing rapidly and the investment was a direct response to this growth, Perstorp said.

Groundwork for the expansion, which will double caprolactone monomer production and also increase production of polycaprolactone polyol, was now complete, the company said in a statement.

"We predict a bright future for these products that complement our current portfolio of special polyols perfectly and give our customers an edge in spearheading the development of new products and applications," said caprolactones vice president Marten Olausson.

Perstorp acquired the business from Solvay earlier this year. It made €60m ($89m) in global sales in 2006, employing 65 people.

Its products are used in applications such as support material for shoes, coatings for the auto, marine and aerospace industries and hot melt adhesives.
