CHARLOTTE (ICIS news)--BASF's new reflective coating system for roofs could lower heating and cooling costs of buildings, the German producer said on Tuesday at a trade show.

The coating increases the roof's ability to reflect sunlight, said David Story, BASF technical manager. As energy and raw-material costs increase, the system could increase the value of houses and buildings, he said.

Story was speaking to the American Coatings Show and Conference, organised by the National Paint & Coatings Association.

The American Coatings Show and Conference runs through Thursday.
