SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Maruzen Petrochemical will restart its cracker in Chiba on 22 June after the current turnaround, a source from the company said on Wednesday.

“So far, the maintenance is going on as per planned,” the source added.

The 520,000 tonne/year cracker was shut down on 15 May for maintenance.

On the same day that Maruzen shut its cracker, Mitsubishi Chemical also shut its 450,000 tonne/year cracker in Mizushima for a turnaround.

In the month of May, a total of three cracker operators shut down their crackers for maintenance turnarounds, marking the heavy turnaround period for Japanese crackers.

Naphtha import figures for April had dropped by 20% due to lower demands caused by the number of turnarounds.
