TORONTO (ICIS news)--Symrise will open a new creative centre in Shanghai on 18 June, the Germany-based producer of fragrances and flavourings said on Wednesday.

The centre would focus on fragrance development, application, marketing and sales, and consumer research for China as well as markets in India, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines, the company said.

It would also serve as its newly established hub for North East Asia, Symrise added.

“Opening the new creative centre in Shanghai is proof of the critical role that the entire Asian market plays in the development of our business,” said Achim Daub, global president for scent and care at Symrise.

Symrise expected to initially employ 51 people at the centre but employment would increase to 70 by 2013, it said without disclosing investment costs or other financial details.
