HOUSTON (ICIS news)--The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed on Wednesday an arsenic cleanup plan for the South Minneapolis Residential Soil Contamination Superfund site.

The proposal involves funding of $17.9m (€11.6m).

The site encompasses a number of neighbourhoods in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where the CMC Heartland Lite Yard was located from 1938-1968.

A pesticide containing the hazardous material arsenic was produced there and material from an open-air railcar-unloading and product-mixing operation is believed to have been wind-blown into nearby neighborhoods.

A public hearing is scheduled on 11 June to discuss the plan and allow local residents to make comments or questions.
