CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (ICIS news)--The next generation of coatings will be less damaging to the environment, a 3M executive said on Wednesday.
"All of us are becoming more environmentally conscious. [Coatings manufacturers] are looking at the environment and want to provide less hazardous material for our children and our children's children," said Judith Dow-Grant, 3M's business manager for its energy and advanced materials division.
Dow-Grant was speaking at the American Coatings Show and Conference, which was organised by the National Paint & Coatings Association.
Dow-Grant points to the company's shutdown of its $350m (€228m) C8 fluorocarbon business in 2000 after concerns were raised regarding the product's effect on the atmosphere. "3M is a very environmentally conscious business," Dow-Grant said.
The company is now using biodegradable C4 technology in its products for the coatings industry.
