SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--China-based Jilin Chemical Fiber Group restarted two acrylic fibre (AF) plants with a combined capacity of 236,000tonne/year on Thursday, said a company source.

Jilin subsidiaries Jimeng AF and Qifeng Fiber operate the 100,000 tonne/year and 136,000 tonne/year plants respectively, the source added.

The maintenance shutdown began on 26 May and lasted for nine days, said the source.

Meanwhile, another major AF producer, Zhejiang Jinyong, which had been running its 58,000 tonne/year unit at 50% since last month, will increase its operating rates to 100% from 11 June, said a company source.

However, the AF market was weak and trades were thin due to oversupply of acrylonitrile, the feedstock for AF, said traders.
