PALM DESERT (ICIS news)--American Chemistry Council (ACC) CEO Jack Gerard will step down from his position to head up the American Petroleum Institute (API), said industry sources on Wednesday.
"Gerard has done an unbelievable job advocating on behalf of the industry and managing this organisation, and we will miss him dearly," said a source close to the situation.
Gerard is set to replace Red Cavaney, president and CEO of the API, said another source.
Gerard took the helm of the ACC in July 2005 amid much turmoil in the group. Long-time members such as US-based Huntsman and Chevron-Phillips Chemical had left the organisation as the ACC's advocacy efforts were put into question.
Under Gerard, the ACC, along with other trade organisations, was instrumental in advocating the passage of legislation in the US to open up certain areas in the US Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) for natural gas exploration in late 2006.
The ACC's efforts this year have focused on energy and climate change, rail competition, chemical regulations and site security.
