SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--Sinopec subsidiary Daqing Petrochemical has postponed the shutdown of its 80,000 tonne/year butadiene rubber (BR) plant to 18 August to align it with the turnaround at its upstream butadiene (BD) unit, a company official said on Thursday.
"We delay the BR turnaround to late August for around 20 days," the source said, adding that the shutdown was originally scheduled for 10 June.
The BD unit with a nameplate capacity of 70,000 tonnes/year was not scheduled for a turnaround in 2008 and it was only recently that the company announced the August turnaround, but it did not provide any reasons for the change in plans.
"The BR supply in northeast and east China will tilt tight at that time as Daqing products mainly flow into these regions," a local trader said.
The company is located in Daqing city, in the northeastern Chinese province of Heilongjiang.
