HOUSTON (ICIS news)--LyondellBasell will close certain facilities as part of the consolidation of its North American polypropylene business, the company said on Thursday.

The company said it plans to consolidate sales, marketing and technology activities following its acquisition of Solvay Engineered Polymers in February.

The company will close its Sales & Application Development Center in Auburn Hills, Michigan, and its activities to the company’s expanded Advanced Polyolefins Business & Development Center in Lansing, Michigan.

LyondellBasell will also close its PP compounding facility in Grand Prairie, Texas. Production will be moved to the company's Mansfield, Texas plant, and to its new plant in Altamira, Mexico, scheduled to come on-stream this year.

The Auburn Hills, Michigan, development centre and the PP compounding facility in Grand Prairie, Texas, will be closed by the end of the year.

"Our goal is to provide the most effective service to customers and to utilize resources more efficiently by consolidating our polypropylene compounding assets and streamlining business operations," said Steve Dwyer, divisional vice president of LyondellBasell's automotive Americas business.
