LONDON (ICIS news)--A 24-hour strike at ports across France was expected to begin at 15:00 European Standard Time on Saturday 7 June with more such strikes planned for the coming few weeks, a spokesperson for the Port Authority of Le Havre said on Friday.

The industrial action follows Thursday’s 24-hour strike, which caused minimal disruption to chemical shipments, sources said.

"A series of 24-hour strikes on Thursday and Saturday are planned over the next couple of weeks", the spokesperson said, adding, "together with the ban on overtime, the action is planned to maximise disruption."

The strikes are in protest against measures to a planned law that would transfer jobs at state-controlled port authorities to private cargo-handling companies.
