HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US liquid caustic soda exports were 351,715 tonnes in April, up by 19% from the same month one year earlier, according to the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Tuesday.

However, exports in April were 5% lower than the 368,242 tonnes shipped in March 2008. Market sources attributed the drop to declining production rates in April.

Jamaica, Brazil and Canada were the top three export destinations for US liquid caustic soda in April, totalling 218,774 tonnes, or 62% of total shipments for the month, the ITC said.

US caustic soda export spot prices were assessed in the $620-660/DMT (dry metric tonne) (€397-422/DMT) FOB (free on board) US Gulf range during the week ended 6 June, according to global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing.
