HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Expandable polystyrene (EPS) imports into the US were 5% higher in the January-April period compared with the same period of 2007, the US International Trade Commission (USITC) said on Tuesday.

However, the US imported 17,028 tonnes of EPS in April 2008, a 6.68% decline compared with 18,246 tonnes imported in the previous month.

Bahamas, Mexico and Korea were the top suppliers to the US in April. It was notable that imports from Asian countries declined significantly in April relative to the previous month, with the exception of Indonesia, which exported slightly higher volumes to the US.

The table below shows a summary of EPS import statistics for April 2008 and their variation compared with the previous month and the previous year.
