HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US imports of perchloroethylene (perc) in April were 5,544 tonnes, or four times higher than the same month a year before, according to figures released on Tuesday by the US International Trade Commission (ITC).

Imports in the month were nearly 40 times more than the 140 tonnes imported in March.

The largest source of the increase was from Germany, which accounted for 3,981 tonnes, or 70%, of the imports. The April amount was more than double what the country exported in first quarter 2007 and could represent more material coming from Dow Chemical’s plant in Niedersachsen.

Spot prices for perc were assessed at $948-1,058/tonne ex-tank for the week ended 3 June, unchanged from the end of April, according to global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing.
