SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Operating rates at Baichuan Chemical Company’s 200,000 tonne/year butyl acetate plant at Jiangyin City, Jiangsu province returned to full capacity on Wednesday, a company official said.

The plant was shut down fro a week due to a shortage of feedstock n-butanol. The shutdown came amid shutdowns and operating rate cut measures undertaken by other producers due to the feedstock shortage.

“We restarted the plant on Sunday and achieved full capacity today,” he said, adding that the output loss amounted to around 5,000 tonnes.

Spot butyl acetate offers for June-loading cargoes surged to $1,700-1,750/tonne FOB (free on board) China in the week ended 6 June, $120-150/tonne above first half May levels, in tandem with feedstock n-butanol values.

Transacted prices, however, trailed behind at $1,600-1,700/tonne CFR southeast Asia due to flat demand from the downstream wood and automobile coatings sectors, and a lack of supply concern, producers said.
