SHANGHAI(ICIS news)--PetroChina reopened the 1,252km-long Lanzhou-Chengdu-Chongqing pipeline at around 13:00 local time after it was shut down to guard against torrents from the Tangjiashan quake lake in Sichuan province, a company source said on Wednesday.

However, it was transporting around 8,000 tonnes/day, only half of its normal capacity, he added.

The section from Lanzhou in northwestern Gansu province to Sichuan provincial capital Chengdu had resumed normal operations, but the Chengdu-Chongqing section was still closed, the source said, adding there was no time scheduled to reopen the whole pipeline.

The restart was in line with the effort to provide oil supply to the quake-hit areas as well as to test the operational condition of the pipeline, he added.

The pipeline transports 6m tonnes/year of fuel and currently provides 70% of oil products to the southwestern province of Sichuan.
