SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--Chengdu Huarong, a major polyvinyl chloride (PVC) producer in Sichuan province, restarted its 60,000 tonne/year carbide-based plant in early June, a company source said on Thursday.
It was operating the plant at 30% capacity due to tight supply of feedstock calcium carbide, the source said.
Huarong has increased its PVC prices to yuan (CNY)8,600/tonne ($1,243/tonne) delivered (DEL), about CNY 100/tonne higher than last month.
"We should keep our PVC prices at a high level to secure profits as calcium carbide remains in tight supply in local market, even in other markets in China," said the source in Mandarin. "Meanwhile, we [will] also handle this pressure by cutting operation."
Chengdu Huarong had shut down the plant following the earthquake in Sichuan province on 12 May.
