MUMBAI (ICIS news)--Germany’s Lanxess has inaugurated a new screening unit at its Antwerp site with Kali + Salz Group subsidiary Fertiva as part of a long-term cooperation agreement in the fast-growing fertilizer business, it said on Thursday.

The project is based on a 10-year supply agreement for ammonium sulphate, a byproduct in the production of caprolactam, that was extended in summer 2007, specialty chemical producer said.

"Lanxess can now offer coarse-grained ammonium sulphate in addition to the standard product," it said.

Fertiva has invested some €5m ($7.8m) in the facility and markets the majority of the ammonium sulphate produced at the plant, it said.

The storage space has also been extended and can accommodate thousands of tonnes of granules in preparation for shipping to worldwide destinations, the firm said.
