China’s Changzhou Donghao shuts down SM line

SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--China-based Changzhou Donghao Chemical Industry Co shut down its 200,000 tonne/year styrene monomer (SM) plant on 13 June due to disruption in the supply of high-pressure steam, a company source said on Monday.

"We declared a force majeure on 13 June after a car hit and broke the steam pipeline resulting in a temporary disruption of steam,” the source said adding the plant might restart this weekend.

“Supply to contract customers will not be affected as we have inventories at present,” the source said in Mandarin.

SM is used to make synthetic rubber and polystyrene .

The company is located in Changzhou city, in the eastern Chinese province of Jiangsu.
