SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--China-based Lanzhou Petrochemical has been operating its newly-built acrylic acid and esters plant at a rate of 70% since its start-up in late April, a company source said on Wednesday.

“The operating rate always remains at 70% as the sales of products have not brought us much profit due to high feedstock prices,” the source said in Mandarin.

The plant, located at Lanzhou, the capital of northwestern Gansu province, produces 80,000 tonnes/year of acrylic acid and 115,000 tonnes/year of acrylate esters, such as methyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate and butyl acrylate.

The plant's construction began in 2006 with an investment of yuan (CNY) 1.16bn ($168m) and took trial runs in April this year, the source added.

Lanzhou Petrochemical is a PetroChina subsidiary.
