LONDON (ICIS news)--LyondellBasell plans to expand its global polypropylene (PP) compounding capacity by 30% to 1.2m tonnes/year by the end of 2009, the chemicals major said on Wednesday.

The company said its new facility in Guangzou, China, would come on stream in the coming months, followed by a new joint venture compounding plant in Damman, Saudi Arabia.

LyondellBasell is considering opportunities in Russia and India, while expansions at its sites in Suzhou, China; Rayong, Thailand; and Ensenada, Argentina, were also in the pipeline, the company said.

The compounds are used for car bumpers, interior and exterior trim, under-the-hood parts as well as electrical appliance components.

The company’s advanced polyolefins business recently relocated its global headquarters to Hong Kong to address the rapidly expanding Asia Pacific markets, it said.
