LONDON (ICIS news)--Arkema plastics subsidiary, Alphacan, plans to cut 29 jobs in France to reduce operating costs and improve competitiveness, the French specialty chemicals company said on Wednesday.

Arkema said the business, which produces PVC pipes and profiles for the construction industry, was in a highly competitive environment and must cut costs to secure its long-term standing in the market.

The move would include the loss of 15 jobs at Alphacan’s headquarters at Le Celle Saint-Cloud, just outside Paris, and 14 positions at its plant in Gaillac, southern France.

"Alphacan is committed to taking the necessary measures to find solutions for every staff member concerned by this plan, in particular through internal or external redeployment," it said in a statement.
