LONDON (ICIS news)--INEOS Phenol will continue to run phenol and acetone production at its sites in Antwerp, Belgium and Gladbeck, Germany until September, a company source confirmed on Thursday.

“We are still running at reduced rates and this will remain until August/September time,” said the company source. “We have a planned shutdown in Gladbeck at the end of August and will make our decision then,” the source added.

The 650,000 tonnes/year of phenol and 395,000 tonnes/year of acetone facility in Gladbeck will shut down on 23 August for a two week planned outage.

Following news of the cutbacks on productions, two other European producers of phenol and acetone have been forced to cut-back operations because of logistical issues.

On Thursday 12 June, CEPSA Quimica announced that it has reduced production at its phenol and acetone facilities in Huelva, Spain as a result of the Spanish truckers strike. Although the company is integrated it still needed other products such as caustic soda.

On Friday 13 June, Novapex confirmed that it would be reducing phenol and acetone production at its Roussillon facility in France over the weekend of 14-15 June because of logistical problems resulting from the Marseille dockers strike.
