BANGKOK(ICIS news)--Cristal Global, the world's second largest titanium dioxide (TiO2) producer, plans to expand the capacity of its plant at Yanbu in Saudi Arabia by the end of this year, a source close to the company said on Friday.

The capacity would be increased to 180,000 tonnes/year from the current 150,000 tonnes/year, he added on the sidelines of the 12th Asian Chlor-alkali Conference.

"Demand in the Middle East for TiO2 is expected to grow at 4% in 2008 from 100,000 tonnes/year in 2007, on the back of strong coatings consumption in the booming construction sector,"  the source said.

The export markets being targeted include Turkey, China and India, he said.

The two-day conference, organised by ICIS and Tecnon OrbiChem, ends on Friday.
