SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Japan’s Maruzen Petrochemical has restarted its cracker in Chiba after a maintenance turnaround, a source from the company said on Monday.

“The cracker has been restarted and everything is running smoothly,” the source added.

The 520,000 tonne/year cracker in Chiba was shut down on 15 May for maintenance.

Mitsubishi Chemical, which also shut down its 450,000 tonne/year cracker in Mizushima for a turnaround on the same day as Maruzen, will restart its cracker on 30 June.

Naphtha import figures for April had dropped by 20% in Japan due to lower demand caused by the number of planned turnarounds during the period.
