SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Jiangsu Sopo plans to bring on stream its new 600,000 tonne/year coal-based methanol unit by mid-2009, a source from the company said on Monday.

The company was also building a 600,000 tonne/year acetic acid plant scheduled to come on stream in late 2009, which would ease the tight feedstock situation for its ethyl acetate plant, the source added.

The 600,000 tonne/year methanol plant was the first stage of the company’s project to build a 1.2m tonne/year methanol facility, it said.

The acetic acid plant would be integrated with the methanol facilities at the company’s base in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu province.

The company was said to be investing a total of CNY10bn ($1.45bn) in the project.
