PRAGUE (ICIS news)--The EU’s Reach directive on the registration and labelling of chemicals has been approved by the Czech parliament, the legislative body said on Thursday.

Approximately 30,000 firms in the Czech Republic involved in the chemicals business within the EU would be affected by the new rules, the Association of the Czech Chemical Industry (SCHP CR) said, adding it would cost the industry about Czech koruna (Kc) 11bn (€456.9m, $712.5m) to implement.

However, the watering down of the original Reach - Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals - legislation by the European Parliament meant a “total catastrophe” for the Czech chemicals sector had been avoided, the association said.
