Lanxess ups German ion exchange capacity

MUMBAI (ICIS news)--Lanxess has completed its ion exchange capacity increase programme at its plants in Bitterfeld and Leverkusen, Germany, at an investment of €9m ($14.3m) in order to meet growing demand, the specialty chemicals group said on Friday.

"Demand for high-quality ion exchange resins has risen dramatically. Our order books are full," said Jean-Marc Vesselle, head of global product management and strategic development in the ion exchange resins business unit. 

"To cope with the growth in demand, we had to add a further production line to our plant in Leverkusen," he added. 

The plants increased production volumes for the company’s premium product Lewatit by more than 10%.

The Lewatit plant is one of the world's largest for making ion exchange resins, which are used in domestic and industrial water softening and conditioning.

Lanxess also plans to construct a new ion exchange site at Jhagadia in India at a cost of around €50m.
