SHANGHAI (ICIS news)-- Petrochina subsidiary Daqing Petrochemical has delayed the restart of its 100,000 tonne/year acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) plant to the first half of July, said a company source on Monday.

This unit was shut down on 10 June for a 15-day maintenance and was expected to restart towards the end of June.

"We did not resume production on 25 June as scheduled but we may restart do so in the first half of July, maybe early July," added the source without providing reasons for the delay.

The company would supply on-spec products to the market two weeks after the restart. "It will perhaps relieve the tight supply in the market, but most traders are not interested in negotiations due to the recent downtrend of ABS," said a trader.

Daqing Petrochemical expected to expand its ABS capacity to 200,000 tonnes/year by 2010 after the completion of a new 100,000 tonne/year plant, added the source.
