HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Dow Chemical Company was named employer of the year by the American Legion for the company’s effort to recruit soldiers returning to civilian life, the company said on Monday.

"We have found that individuals with military experience are well-suited for chemical production roles, because they are highly disciplined, have a great work ethic and understand the importance of life-long, on-the-job training,” said Dow’s vice president for Michigan operations David Dupre.

The American Legion, based in Washington DC, recognises employers annually who do an outstanding job of hiring and promoting veterans within their company. The influential not-for-profit community service organisation for war-time veterans has over 3m members in 15,000 posts worldwide.
