SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Taiwan's Formosa Petrochemical Corp (FPC) plans to restart its 1.03 million tonne/yr No 2 cracker at Mailiao this Friday after no damages were found to the compressor, a company official said on Tuesday.

“The cracker should restart on Friday. There were no damages,” the official said in Mandarin, adding that the production loss for ethylene was estimated at more than 10,000 tonnes.

He said the company was likely to purchase some ethylene for its derivative units but did not give further details.

Formosa had shut the cracker on 29 June due to compressor problems.

The company also runs two other crackers at the same site. The No 1 cracker has a nameplate capacity of 700,000 tonnes/year while the No 3 cracker can produce 1.2 million tonnes/year of ethylene.

The No 3 cracker is slated to have a 45-day scheduled maintenance shutdown in mid-September.
