NOAAHOUSTON (ICIS news)--Meteorologists named on Monday the first hurricane of the US' storm season.

Hurricane Bertha formed far off in the Atlantic Ocean, about 845 miles (1,360 km) east of the northern Leeward Islands, the National Hurricane Center said.

The storm was moving towards the Atlantic coastline at 17 miles/hour, the centre said.

As such, the storm will likely miss the US petrochemical industry, which is concentrated along the Gulf of Mexico.
