Marun Petrochemical shuts crackerSINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Iran’s Marun Petrochemical has unexpectedly shut down its 1.1m tonne/year cracker in Bandar Imman, along with its high density polyethylene (HDPE), polypropylene (PP) and monoethylene glycol (MEG) units at the site, a source close to the company said on Tuesday.

The cracker was shut down three days ago due to a disruption in its gas supply and would be restarted on 4-5 August, along with the 300,000 tonne/year HDPE and PP lines, the source added.

The technical problem had also led to the shutdown of a 400,000 tonne/year monoethylene glycol (MEG) line at the same site, which would be restarted on 1 September, ICIS news reported on Monday.

“The company was forced to shut down the derivative plants due to lack of ethylene and propylene feedstock resulting from the shutdown of the cracker,” the first source said.

The source did not elaborate on the reasons for the gas supply disruption.

Marun is a subsidiary of state-owned National Petrochemical Co.
