LONDON (ICIS news)--US potash seller PCS Sales has announced a $250/short ton (€160/short ton) increase for muriate of potash (MOP) on strong demand and tight global supply, a company source said on Tuesday.

PCS Sales announced a $250/short ton domestic price increase for all grades of MOP as of 1 September through to 30 November 2008.

Once effective, standard MOP prices will be $767/short ton FOB (free on board) mine, soluble will be $780/short ton FOB mine, granular $772/short ton FOB mine and white granular $780/short ton FOB mine.

Imbalanced supply and demand justified the price increase, PCS Sales said.

The announcement comes at a time of record high potash prices globally.

With demand for MOP high and a relatively small number of suppliers active in each region, buyers have had little choice but to purchase at these levels.

PCS Sales is the dedicated sales department for Potash Corp of Saskatchewan.
