NEW DELHI (ICIS news) --India’s Bala Murugan Chemicals Private Limited (BMCPL) has proposed to set up a 15,000 tonnes/year titanium dioxide (TiO2) plant at Tuticorin in Tamilnadu State, a state government official said on Friday.
The plant would also produce 36,000 tonnes of ferrous sulphate heptahydrate and 48,000 tonnes/year of hydrated magnesium sulphate, 7,500 tonnes/year of iron oxide pigment and 7,500 tonnes/year of carbon dioxide.
The Indian Rupees(Rs)750m ($17m) project would be implemented within 18 months after availability of all requisite approvals.
BMPCL is a subsidiary of Beach Minerals Company (BMC), which is holding company of BMC group. BMC extracts several beach mineral and its derivatives such as garnet, ilmenite, rutile, zircon, monosite and silimenite.
BMC will meet the plant’s feedstock requirement of 33,000 tonnes/year of ilmenite from its mining operations at Kulam in Kerala. The plant will meet its sulphuric acid requirement of 49,500 tonnes/year from copper smelter of Sterlite Industries Limited at Tuticorin.
