SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Iran’s Marun Petrochemical may have to delay the restart of its 1.1m tonne/year cracker by another month to September, a source close to the company said on Tuesday.

The cracker located in Bandar Imam was unexpectedly shut down earlier this month due to a disruption in its gas supply.

The cracker shutdown also resulted in the outage of all downstream plants, which includes a 300,000-tonne/year high density polyethylene (HDPE) line, a 300,000-tonne/year polypropylene (PP) line and a 400,000 tonne/year monoethylene glycol (MEG) line all at the same site.

Initial estimates for the cracker restart were for 4-5 August.

The MEG line could be restarted on 1 September, sources said earlier.

The source did not elaborate on the reasons for the gas supply disruption.

Marun is a subsidiary of state-owned National Petrochemical Co and operates one of the largest crackers in the country.
