LONDON (ICIS news)--BASF is preparing for a routine shutdown of its 90,000 tonne/year butyl acetate (butac) unit in Ludwigshafen, Germany, a company source said on Wednesday.

The outage would begin on 22 August, one week after the scheduled maintenance starts at its butanol unit, the source added.

The butyl acetate outage was due to last until the end of September, but this would not be fully confirmed until mid-September.

The butanol unit was not scheduled to restart until 1 October.

BASF was in the process of building butac stocks to prepare for the five-week outage.

Other European producers of butyl acetate include INEOS and Oxea.
