SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--China’s polyvinyl chloride (PVC) producers have reduced operating rates on tight supply of feedstock due to transportation restrictions on chemicals put in place before the Beijing Olympics, producers said on Monday.

Xuzhou Tiancheng Chemical in Jiangsu province, for instance, had reduced its PVC operating capacity to 30% due to the tight supply of feedstock calcium carbide, said a company source.

“We dont have offers because we have no inventory here in our company, the source added.

Another PVC producer, Huarong in Chengdu had reduced its operating rates to 50% also on tight feedstock, said a source.

Hengyang Kingboard Chemical of Hunan province faced local electricity restrictions and had reduced its operating rate to 50%, a company source said.

Transport restrictions on chemicals are being put in place between July and September in China, while the Olympic Games takes place in August.
