LONDON (ICIS news)--Ticona has started up its new 20,000 tonne/year GUR ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE) facility a its Celanese-integrated complex in Nanjing, China, the company said on Tuesday.
“Our new GUR UHMW-PE facility is part of Ticona’s Asia strategy to directly serve our customers in this region of impressive growth,” said Sandra Beach Lin, president of Ticona.
The Nanjing GUR unit was part of a multi-year investment by Ticona - the engineering polymers business of Celanese - in China and throughout Asia to provide technical and commercial resources focused on customer application development and regional world-scale monomer, polymer and compounding production facilities, the company said.
The engineering polymers business of Celanese, which describes itself as the world's leading producer of GUR UHMW-PE products worldwide, also operates GUR facilities in Oberhausen, Germany and in Bishop, Texas.
The company's total capacity from the three plants is 90,000 tonnes/year.
