SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--South Korean petrochemical majors Samsung Total and Lotte Daesan will start up their joint venture olefins conversion unit (OCU) with a propylene (C3) capacity of 200,000 tonnes/year earlier than expected by mid-August, said a company source on Thursday.

The OCU plant in Daesan was originally scheduled to start up towards the end of August.

Feedstocks such as crude C4 will be supplied by Lotte Daesan while the other feed ethylene will be supplied by Samsung Total.

Production, which would be for captive use, would be split evenly between Samsung Total and Lotte Daesan.

Samsung Total's share of propylene from the OCU unit would go to its 300,000 tonne/year polypropylene (PP) plant that started up last year, while Lotte Daesan’s portion would also be used in their new PP plant which was started up last week.
