SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--South Korea based Honam Petrochemical started production at its new 40,000 tonne/year poly methyl methcrylate (PMMA) manufacturing plant, located in Yeosu, on 21 July, a company source said on Friday.
On-spec product was achieved on 24 July, the source said, adding that the plant was expected to produce commercial quantities of PMMA by the end of August.
Methyl methacrylate (MMA) feedstock for the new facility would be procured from Honam’s 50,000 tonne/year MMA plant in Yeochun and also from some imported from Mitsubishi Rayon Co (MRC).
Daesan MMA, a joint venture between Honam and MRC, is also building a 90,000 tonne/year MMA manufacturing unit in Daesan, which will be completed in April 2009.
