PRAGUE (ICIS news)--Poland’s Zaklady Azotowe Pulawy (ZAP) said on Wednesday it had won approval to build a 270,000 tonne/year urea installation in the country’s Starachowice special economic zone.

The unit would take ZAP’s overall urea capacity to 1.2m tonnes/year, it added.

No financial details were disclosed.

ZAP, also a producer of nitrogren fertilizers, melamine and caprolactam, said the expansion had been made partly possible by its recent signing of a 15-year hydrogen and nitrogen supply contract from Air Liquide Polska valued at zlotys (Zl) 680m (€210.9m/$331.9m).

The contract was drawn up as part of ZAP’s commitment to build up its oxygen-ammonia-urea production line.

Wood & Company investment bank recently hailed ZAP as Poland's largest chemical production firm by market capitalisation.
