Japan's Sekisui Chem posts Y3.5bn Q1 net loss

TOKYO (ICIS news)--Japanese chemical producer Sekisui Chemical has posted a yen (Y) 3.5bn ($32.4m) net loss in the first three months ended 30 June against net income of Y6.7bn in the same period the previous year, the company said in a statement on Thursday.

First-quarter 2008 net sales were Y205.2bn, up 0.9% from Y203.3bn year on year on steady sales overseas and in the automotive, IT and medical strategic growth fields, the producer said.

First-quarter net sales in the functional plastics segment rose 4.1% to Y69bn from Y66.2bn the year before on increased sales for automotive, IT and medical sectors, the company added.

Sekisui Chemical did not revise its financial results forecast, announced in late April.
